Don’t Tell My Mom / Writing
It was the summer before my son’s grade 12 year that I truly realized how little time I had left with my kids. I picked up my camera as a way to hold on to every last moment I had with them. It wasn’t long after I started to photograph them that I got swept away into their world. Teenage life is all still so relatable. What I was witnessing was the togetherness, the bravado, awkwardness, and pushing boundaries. A time when it is so important to simultaneously express individuality and be part of a group. A time of life when we hang on tight to some elements of childhood as we stretch toward adulthood, a foot in both worlds. What struck me most is how some things never change. The phones may be different but teens still sing popular songs at the top of their lungs and it is still just as important to have that certain pair of jeans.
